"The seemingly growing unavailability of hematology medicines is of great concern to EHA. Incidental reports and a survey we conducted amongst the National Societies indicate that problems regarding unavailability of haematology medicines in Europe are considerable and growing. 17 out of the 35 countries said they regard unavailability of medicines to be a problem in their country and out of these 17 countries, 12 indicated that the problem has got worse in the last 5 years. We believe these insights call for a better, more thorough understanding of the type, causes and consequences of the specific problems that different countries face.

To gather the necessary data we have developed a website survey where doctors, patients and healthcare professionals can report unavailability of medicines. Over the course of (at least) the following months, we will collect and analyse these reports so that we can develop a coherent picture of the scope, causes and consequences of these problems in Europe. At the moment such an overview does not exist which makes it difficult for European politicians and policy makers to take measures that are effective and have high impact.

As the success of our efforts fully depends on the quantity and quality of reports, we ask your help: in order to maximise input, we would be grateful if you could forward the message below to your network and/or put the link (https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/GWH3DK5) on your institution’s website.

Please note that we will make all collected evidence publically available. If you have any questions or comments on this issue, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Kind regards,

Nina Straathof
